Coworking space – 2026 – on-going
Hishida Koumuten
This coworking located in Hakuba is inspired by vernacular architecture from the region, Japanese storehouses, called Dozō 土蔵. They have the roof made of wooden planks, with pillars around the perimeter, and about five layers of crossbeams, onto which straw was hung to protect against the heavy snowfall.
Reinterpreting these typical design features led the design of this inimate coworking space. The strong design typology has been drawn in order to be able to be repeated with slight variations to offer a variety of shared and coworking spaces in Hakuba.
The choice of Yakisugi, wood shingles and mud wall was not only practical, but also to inscribe the buidling in a continuous dialogue with the surroundings history.
